Zeinab Abdel Hamid was an Egyptian modernist painter best known for her vibrant cityscapes. Quartier Populaire (1956) shows a busy neighborhood in Egypt, highlighting a few of the city’s popular staples, like moving trams, street vendors, and horse carriages. At the bottom of the painting, we see carts and mobile kiosks selling food to families and workers. In the center of the canvas, a tram is shown moving through the busy street, reflecting the rapid modernisation of Egypt at this time.
اشتُهرت الرسّامة الحداثية المصريّة زينب عبد الحميد بتصوير مشاهد المدينة النابضة بالحياة. وتُظهر لوحة “حي شعبي” التي رسمتها الفنانة عام 1956 حيّاً مكتظّاً بالناس في مصر، وتركّز فيه على عناصر المدينة الرئيسية، مثل عربات الترام، وباعة الشوارع، والعربات التي تجرّها الأحصنة، كما نرى أسفل اللوحة عربات وأكشاك متحرّكة تبيع الطعام للعائلات والعمّال. وتتوسّط اللوحة عربة ترام تنساب عبر زحمة الشارع مظهرةً تسارع حركة الحداثة في مصر خلال تلك الفترة.
